🧱 Danh từ hóa trong văn học thuật (Nominalisation) · C1

Biến động từ/tính từ thành danh từ (decide → decision, rise → a rise) để gói cả mệnh đề vào một cụm danh từ – giúp câu văn cô đọng, khách quan và mang tính học thuật.

Công thức

Cụm danh từ làm chủ ngữ	the / a + N (từ V/adj) + of / in + N + V … The expansion of the airport created 3,000 jobs.
Thay mệnh đề nguyên nhân	due to / because of + the / a + N Due to the closure of the mine, many families moved away.
Động từ “nhẹ” + danh từ	S + make / have / show + a / an + N Sales showed a slight improvement in March.

Mô tả xu hướng Task 1
There was a dramatic decline in the number of smokers. – Số người hút thuốc giảm mạnh.
Gói nguyên nhân thành chủ ngữ
The rapid growth of cities has put pressure on housing. – Sự phát triển nhanh của các thành phố đã gây áp lực lên nhà ở.
Làm câu khách quan (bỏ người thực hiện)
The introduction of tuition fees reduced applications. – Việc áp dụng học phí đã làm giảm số đơn đăng ký.
Tính từ → danh từ
The availability of cheap flights has boosted tourism. – Sự sẵn có của vé máy bay giá rẻ đã thúc đẩy du lịch.
Liên kết câu (nhắc lại ý bằng danh từ)
Prices rose by 20%. This increase hit low-income families hardest. – Giá tăng 20%. Mức tăng này ảnh hưởng nặng nhất đến các gia đình thu nhập thấp.

💡 Đừng danh từ hóa mọi câu: quá nhiều danh từ liên tiếp (the implementation of the reduction of the consumption of…) làm câu khó đọc. Mỗi đoạn 1–2 cụm là vừa.

Lỗi hay gặp

❌ ~~Because of the government invested more, unemployment fell.~~
✅ Because of greater government investment, unemployment fell.
Because of + cụm danh từ, không + mệnh đề. Hoặc dùng Because the government invested more…

❌ ~~There was a significant increase of the price of rice.~~
✅ There was a significant increase in the price of rice.
increase in + thứ thay đổi; increase of + con số (an increase of 10%).

❌ ~~The develop of technology has changed education.~~
✅ The development of technology has changed education.
Sau the cần danh từ (development), không dùng động từ nguyên mẫu.

Danh từ hóa là đặc trưng của văn phong học thuật, giúp tăng cả Lexical Resource (word formation) lẫn Grammatical Range. Rất hiệu quả trong Task 1 khi muốn đa dạng cách diễn đạt xu hướng.
