Lời chào Dear Kate,
Mục đích thư I'm so sorry I missed your birthday dinner on Saturday. I know I promised to be there, and I feel absolutely terrible about letting you down.
Ý 1 On Saturday afternoon, my younger brother fell off his bike and hurt his arm quite badly. My parents were away, so I had to take him to hospital. We ended up waiting for nearly six hours, and my phone ran out of battery, which is why I couldn't even call you.
Ý 2 I've been feeling awful about it ever since. You'd gone to so much trouble to organise everything, and I hate to think you were waiting for me. Luckily, my brother's arm wasn't broken, just badly bruised.
Ý 3 I'd love to make it up to you. How about I take you out for lunch next weekend at that Italian place you love? It'll be my treat, of course. Or, if you prefer, we could go to the cinema and see that new comedy.
