Mở bài Community service is increasingly seen as part of a well-rounded education, and some argue that it should be made mandatory for all teenagers as a condition of graduating. Although I understand this view, I believe that young people gain more when they volunteer of their own accord.
Thân bài 1 Câu chủ đề Advocates of compulsory schemes argue that they expose teenagers to realities they would otherwise never see. Giải thích Helping at a care home or a food bank can foster empathy and a sense of civic responsibility, qualities that are not easily taught in a classroom. Furthermore, making the work compulsory ensures that every student benefits, not only those whose parents encourage such activities. Ví dụ Some schools in the United States already require a set number of service hours before students can graduate, and supporters claim that many of these students go on to volunteer long after the requirement has ended.
Thân bài 2 Câu chủ đề However, I side with those who believe that volunteering loses much of its value when it is forced. Giải thích Teenagers who are made to clock up hours often treat the task as a box-ticking exercise, doing the minimum and learning little. In fact, compulsion may breed resentment and discourage them from volunteering as adults. Besides, many young people already juggle heavy study loads and part-time jobs, so an extra obligation would only add to the pressure they are under. A better approach is to make opportunities widely available and to recognise students' contributions, for example in university applications.
Kết bài In conclusion, while compulsory community work aims to build responsible citizens, I believe that genuine commitment cannot be imposed, and that encouragement is more effective than obligation. Schools should therefore nurture a genuine interest in helping others rather than simply counting hours.
