Mở bài Countries differ considerably in the age at which children start formal lessons in reading, writing and arithmetic. While an early start has some appeal, I believe young children benefit more from play-based learning until the age of six or seven.

Thân bài 1 Câu chủ đề Supporters of early schooling argue that it gives children a head start. Giải thích Young brains absorb information remarkably quickly, so introducing letters and numbers at four or five may help pupils keep up with increasingly demanding curricula later on. In addition, school provides a structured environment, which can be particularly valuable for children whose parents work long hours or cannot support their learning at home. Ví dụ In the UK, for instance, most children begin school at four, partly to narrow the gap between richer and poorer families. Early entry also helps parents return to work sooner, which benefits the wider economy.

Thân bài 2 Câu chủ đề On the other hand, many educators believe that formal lessons at this age do more harm than good. Giải thích Through unstructured play, children develop social and emotional skills, such as sharing, negotiating and managing frustration, which lay the foundation for later academic success. Pushing them to sit still and complete worksheets too early can instead put them off learning altogether. By the age of seven, most children are also developmentally ready to concentrate for longer periods, so they pick up reading and writing far more easily. Ví dụ Finland, where formal schooling begins at seven, has long performed well in international assessments, which suggests that a later start does not hold children back.

Kết bài In conclusion, although early schooling may offer practical benefits for some families, I am convinced that the early years are best spent on purposeful play, since this builds the curiosity and confidence that formal education depends on.
