Mở bài As cities grow, there is mounting pressure to replace old buildings in central areas with modern housing. Although the housing shortage is a serious problem, I largely agree that historic buildings should be preserved, since new homes can be created in other ways.

Thân bài 1 Câu chủ đề Old buildings are an irreplaceable part of a city's identity. Giải thích They tell the story of how a community lived, worked and worshipped over centuries, and once demolished, they can never be restored. Ví dụ The Old Quarter of Hanoi or the historic centre of Rome, for example, give residents a sense of belonging and continuity with the past that glass towers cannot provide.

Thân bài 2 Câu chủ đề Furthermore, preserving heritage brings economic benefits. Giải thích Historic districts attract large numbers of tourists, who spend money in local hotels, restaurants and shops. Cities that tear down their landmarks risk becoming indistinguishable from countless others, and losing a valuable source of income. Ví dụ Hoi An, for instance, welcomes millions of visitors every year precisely because its ancient streets have been carefully protected.

Thân bài 3 Câu chủ đề Admittedly, many people desperately need affordable homes, and central land is in short supply. Giải thích However, demolishing historic buildings is not the only solution. Governments can redevelop brownfield sites, build higher-density housing in suburbs well connected by public transport, or convert empty offices into flats. Some old buildings can even be renovated into apartments, combining preservation with new living space. Ví dụ Former warehouses in many European cities have been successfully converted into attractive homes.

Kết bài In conclusion, I believe old buildings in city centres deserve protection because of their cultural and economic value. The need for housing is real, but it can be met through careful urban planning rather than at the expense of a city's heritage.
